Abstract

A 7-year 10-month-old boy with skeletal Class III malocclusion was treated in two phases. In phase one, rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and facemask was applied for early intervention in a cervical vertebral maturation (CVM) stage of CS2. After RME and facemask treatment, decompensation of maxillary and mandibular incisors was noted, as well as an improved skeletal Class III jaw relationship with reduction of the A point-nasion-B point (ANB) angle. Later in phase two, a full mouth fixed edgewise appliance was begun to correct the details of malocclusion. The total treatment duration was 5 years and 5 months (stage 1, 9 months; follow-up, 1 year 8 months; stage 2, 3 years).
